Eurydice 05:40
When you were alive I was your tree and you would find comfort in the darkness below me. And the others they knew that you were my favorite; and the letters to you from my grave stand to prove it. Eurydice I found you in the midst of hell Oh the daughter I love, come to save me from myself In wedding attire you thought you'd be so happy a bride and so interesting. And your lover he wore a coat made of rhythms well he dreamt of that night and soiling the linens. Eurydice I found you in the midst of hell Oh the daughter I love, come to save me from myself Yet a mysterious man said that he's known your father and he told you he had a letter for a dad's favorite daughter. Well he stole you away from the man made of music; stole you into the night to be one of his muses. Eurydice Eurydice I found you in the midst of hell Oh the daughter I love, come to save me from myself

Sterile 03:33
Drunkenness aside I'm glad to see you. Think that I could ask you for a light? You see the smoking's how I've got through; the chance of seeing you tonight They say you changed the way it ended, you look much more favorable now. But I'll take the blame 'cause I've earned it; It's not like I've got pride left anyhow. I hear voices in your absence played with demons joined their chorus Still I can feel your dress' empty draught. Catch a glimpse of your dusty side of the bed stained with all your dreams that I couldn't provide. And now you're gone I can't get you to leave. When I lie alone this whole fucking empty house breathes. Had I opted for the red lights, they would've made a better wife.

Empty Things 05:00
A ship on the ocean brought A hull full of empty things 10 barrels of useless thought And 49 bottles of empathy I've loaded my pack up with ashes Taken my last drink of wine Just tell me that some of this matters And that these three years with you haven't been three years wasting my time What have I to do with this hell? When I've heard the good news but I still can't live with myself What has this all come to? Has the pointing of fingers stopped me from saying "I love you" I've picked out my favorite casket Divided my things equally Now for swallowing the disappoinment Just breathe in casually What have I to do with this hell? When I've heard the good news but I still can't live with myself What has this all come to? Has the pointing of fingers stopped me from saying "I love you" God if you're listening I've run out of words to sing Have they ever meant anything? Or was it just another tongue to speak? What have I to do with this hell? When I've heard the good news but I still can't live with myself What has this all come to? Has the pointing of fingers stopped me from saying "I love you"

about

Tolstoy’s debut EP plays out like a series of (sometimes literal) Greek tragedies, tormenting a cast of characters underneath a wash of post-rock guitars and a restrained but stewing rhythm section. The Denver quintet trades their post-emo roots for a wide-angle lens, inflating personal questions to a cosmic scale. Frontman CJ Welch’s pop/R&B propensities float undeterred atop jarring instrumentals and gang vocals, resulting in a sound that feels composed despite its miscellany. As a drunk Ginuwine takes the Foo Fighters on a misguided rafting trip down the river Styx, one can’t help but feel a sense of catharsis that justifies the relentless weight of Loss and its themes.
